Segway, the popular scooter company, has just re-introduced two new scooters, the new Segway i2 and the x2. They have a new LeanSteer Technolgoy and Wireless InfoKey contoller that makes them more intuitive, enjoyable, and easier to learn.
If you’re into saving money at the gas pump and you’re lucky enough to be able to get to work either by riding a bike or walking, then you might want to check out the latest scooters from Segway. Segway Inc. is taking self-balancing technology to the next level with the introduction of the second generation Segway® Personal Transporter (PT). Today the company announced a new line of Segway PTs that feature breakthrough LeanSteerâ„¢ technology and a wireless InfoKeyâ„¢ controller that enhance the Segway experience by making the ride even more intuitive and adding new and useful functions. The line includes the versatile Segway i2 and a cross-terrain model called the Segway x2, as well as six product packages tailored to specific commercial and consumer market segments and riding environments.
Smart Tech for Smooth Riding
LeanSteer technology is an engineering breakthrough that makes the new Segway PT even more intuitive and appealing. Now, all aspects of movement are controlled by the direction the rider moves his body. Lean right to go right, lean left to go left – the Segway PT responds as the rider naturally leans in the direction he wants to travel, rather than using a handlebar grip for turning. This new technology provides a more intuitive and fun riding experience that is easy to learn. The advanced design of the new Segway PT and its sophisticated software allow it to differentiate between the rider’s steering and changes in the terrain, keeping the rider in a stable and comfortable position when traveling over uneven ground.
“Our goal for the second generation Segway PT was to make a product that truly becomes an extension of your body. With LeanSteer technology, the Segway PT responds instantly to the most subtle motions of your body,†said Doug Field, chief technology officer, Segway Inc. “LeanSteer technology has given our development team the freedom to completely change the design of the product. Dramatic, elegant shapes and finishes, and the use of wireless technology make the new Segway PT a big step forward in the evolution of our product line.â€
A new wireless InfoKey controller turns on the Segway PT and is an “all-in-one†key and information center. It allows the rider to set the speed of the Segway PT, and acts as the speedometer, odometer, trip computer, and battery gauge. The InfoKey controller also activates a security system when the unit is parked. If the device is disturbed while the anti-theft alarm is activated, the wheels lock and the device emits an alarm. At the same time a visual alert is sent to the InfoKey controller to notify the owner of the disturbance. The InfoKey controller is small enough to fit onto a keychain or be carried in a pocket.
“We have been very pleased with the performance of the Segway PT during its five years of use around the world. It has proven to be an extremely durable, reliable product. Thus, with the second generation, our product developers focused on enhancing the riding experience, expanding the product’s capabilities and making the design more appealing, while maintaining our commitment to safety and quality,†said Klee Kleber, vice president of marketing, Segway Inc.
A Segway PT for Every Desire
People can chose from two personal transporters and six product packages in Segway’s new product line. The i2 is a versatile model that takes up no more space than an average adult. Its ground clearance and non-marking tires are ideal for most urban and suburban settings, both indoors and outdoors. It can be stowed in the trunk of a car or rolled onto public transportation. It has a top speed of 12.5 mph or 20km/h and can travel up to 24 miles/39 km., on a single charge of the lithium-ion batteries. Customers can choose from two finishes, anodized black or gloss white. The i2 is available now at Segway Authorized Dealerships in the U.S.
The x2 model is ideal for the adventurer, the outdoor enthusiast and the rider who wants more terrain capability. Its all-terrain tires can maneuver through dirt, gravel, grass or sand and its integrated lift handles make the x2 easy to hoist in or out of a vehicle. Its wider track and higher ground clearance maximize the stability of the x2 for off-pavement and industrial use. The x2 has a top speed of 12.5 mph or 20 km/h and can travel up to 12 miles/19 km. on a single charge of the lithium-ion batteries. The x2 will be available in September at Segway Authorized Dealerships in the U.S.
Later his year, Segway will also release six product packages tailored to specific commercial and consumer market segments and riding environments: the i2 Commuter, i2 Police, i2 Commercial Cargo, x2 Golf, x2 Police, and the x2 Adventure.
