Ok, so AJ and I left Mabank’s Teague Chevrolet and headed to Lewis Chevrolet in Canton. We were greeted by Mr. Henry Lewis himself, and he seemed to be a nice enough guy. Nicer than I would expect. After all, you don’t expect to meet with the owner of the place when you get there, especially because I consider him to be kind of a local “celebrity” of these parts of East Texas (he runs a great commercial on local radio stations, especially the Dallas radio stations around the first of the month when it’s Canton First Monday Trade Days).
So, we did have to wait a while, as Mr. Lewis was with another customer; but he did welcome us when we came in. If it’s customer service you’re after, then you probably should go see this guy; especially if you’re not going to be interested in any high-flying high pressure sales pitches.
So, after a few minutes, we took a walk out and found plenty of 2006 and 2007 Chevrolet 1500 and Chevrolet 2500 Crew Cabs (even a 2006 Chevrolet 2500 Extended Cab 4×4 that I liked). And they were reasonably priced as I would expect. I don’t expect to pay MSRP for a vehicle, but at least those that were there seemed to be in our budget for what we’re looking for right now. And, considering I know how much payments will be on a zero percent loan for 60 months and how much my trade in is worth.
We met Mr. Lewis outside while we were still looking, and he briefly looked at my truck, saying that it was worth about what I thought. The bottom line? We went into his office, we talked briefly, I gave him my info for an application, and he said he’d call me. It was, after all, about dinner time and I understand that he needed to go eat. So anyway, we left it at that. I suspect that I’ll probably get a call from him in a few days saying that he won’t be able to make a deal or he’ll come back with a payment price that’s way over what I want to pay right now. I don’t expect that it’ll work out; and I don’t expect that he’ll be able to come up with something reasonable; after all, we weren’t talking a specific vehicle at that point and I got the impression that he wanted to be nice but it had been a long day.
