Steve Palmer, a man from Massachusetts, joined nearly eight thousand other eBay users in a bidding war to win the only electric car available for sale in the United States. ZAP (NYSE Arca: ZP) says Steve Palmer paid $10,800 dollars for its new ZAP XEBRA sedan, which plugs in to any household electrical socket, puts out 90 percent fewer emissions than the standard car and eliminates those expensive monthly gas bills.
According to Palmer, he’s been trying to find an all-electric vehicle for more than a year. He paid about eight hundred dollars more than he would through a ZAP dealer. “I really wanted the car so my family and I could enjoy this newest technology.” Palmer knew he would get his car more quickly by being the highest bidder.
The ZAP XEBRA is a pod shaped car that comes in two models. The sedan fits four people. The XEBRA PK is a pickup truck that fits two and has a bed that can convert to a flat bed and is an excellent vehicle for in-town multi purpose use. According to ZAP CEO, Steven Schneider, “We are delivering to dealers around the country, but the ZAP XEBRA is so popular some dealers have sold out before the vehicles even arrived.”
The ZAP XEBRA is just one of many alternative vehicles and products that have contributed to ZAP’s revenues this year. ZAP reported revenues of $7.3 million for the first six months of 2006, an increase of $5.2 million or 247 percent over the previous year.
You can get a ZAP vehicle or product by contacting a ZAP dealer or going to ZAP’s web site (www.zapworld.com). You can bid on the next ZAP car that will be listed on eBay in upcoming weeks.
