These days there is a lot of hype about electric cars or solar powered cars being the cars of the future and replacing traditional cars which used oil based motors – but can we really believe that this is likely to happen? Just a few years ago talk like this would have been rubbished by experts who believed that this was the stuff of fantasy and science fiction movies. Nowadays however, people are not wondering if these types of cars will ever be able to replace the traditional motor but instead they are asking the question of when they are going to replace it; this is all down to huge advances in technology.
The whole of mankind would benefit if we could move away from the petrol engine entirely. And being able to break the hold on those oil companies who have held us all in their power for many years would be great; they would be the only ones not to benefit from this. However an electric motor would still have to be powered and although at the moment electrical power comes from fossil fuels too, this is changing. The best thing about these cars is that our whole world would reduce its need to depend on oil. And some of the other great advantages are that there would be huge financial savings for everyone and the environment would be better off too.
This year we have seen electric cars appear on the market that really are a realistic alternative to the traditional motor. The electric cars which have already been released are still slightly pricey but as more and more manufacturers begin to release their versions there will be a significant drop in the prices because of the competition. If the amount of electric cars that the experts are predicting will be on the roads within five years is anything to go by, we should see a huge number out there in about ten years time. As well as electric cars, there is a lot of research underway where the feasibility of creating a commercial solar powered car is being looked at; if this were to happen, our cars would become truly green.
